Pontivy, Hennebont, Quimperle and Port-Louis are classified 'Historic Towns' by the Ministry of Culture.
These towns, rich in history and cultural heritage, protected by their ramparts (Port-Louis) or traversed by the river, invite our visitors to follow the trails of Brittany History.
- PORT-LOUIS, situated at the entrance to the roadstead at Lorient in Morbihan, and at the mouth of the river Blavet, is protected by a 16th century citadel.
- PONTIVY in Morbihan, includes a medieval town of narrow winding streets lined with timbered houses and the Napoleonic District with its wide thoroughfares.
- HENNEBONT, medieval town is situated between Lorient and Baud on the banks of the river, with its ramparts and its fortified old city.
- QUIMPERLE South Finistere, lying between rivers and forest, possesses a rich architectural heritage.

Situated in South Brittany, Malestroit, Josselin, Rochefort en terre and Locronan in west Finistere are classified 'Small Towns of Character' by the Ministry of Culture.
- JOSSELIN : Imposing castel and fortress set into rock. Superb view over the town from the bell tower to admire the half-timbered houses. Church to visit : "Notre Dame du Roncier".
- MALESTROIT south Morbihan Around the 'Bouffay' square, Gothic and Renaissance timbered houses are decorated with facetions sculptures. Church to visit : St Gilles with its double naves.
- ROCHEFORT EN TERRE south Brittany : On slate rock, Rochefort is renowed for its majestic 16th and 17th century houses harmonious floral displays.
- LOCRONAN : Breton tourist centre of west Finistere with it's wonderful collection of fine blue-grey granite houses. With its religious monuments, Locronan is the site of periodic religious processions.
