About La Sabotière
La Sabotière is our riverside property on the Blavet River, in the peaceful village of Saint-Nicolas-des-Eaux, South Brittany. The estate includes two holiday cottages: Le Héron (sleeps 4) and L’Atelier (sleeps 2, formerly “Le Nid”).
This website, brithouse-sabotiere.com, presents our two riverside cottages for English-speaking guests.
Your Hosts
We are Arlette and Roger, the owners of La Sabotière. We live nearby and look after the two cottages with care. We are happy to help if you need anything during your stay, while respecting the privacy and independence of our guests.
La Sabotière has been our family place for many years. We enjoy welcoming guests who appreciate peace, nature and the charm of the Blavet Valley.
Our Story
La Sabotière was built around 1870, at a time when the railway was reaching the region and river navigation on the Blavet was at its busiest. The house was created by a local entrepreneur, a merchant whose business was based at the old mill in Guémené.
In those days, La Sabotière was a stopping place for travellers. Madame welcomed guests, offering meals and a room for the night, while Monsieur worked at his enterprise upriver. The house has kept this spirit of hospitality ever since.
Today, we continue this tradition in a quieter way, with two cottages on the property: Le Héron and L’Atelier. The river still flows past the garden, the village remains peaceful, and La Sabotière keeps its role as a place to rest, breathe and feel at home.
Historical Photo
This old postcard, sent before 1913, shows the village of Saint-Nicolas-des-Eaux with La Sabotière on the right-hand side. At that time, the Blavet River was busy with navigation, and the house welcomed travellers who stopped here for a meal or a night’s rest.
